Buying Tips For Men's Sport Watches - Three Top Quality Brands to Consider
There are multitudes of great men's sport watches to choose from that can satisfy even the most demanding sports enthusiast's needs. A sports watch, along with other essential gear and equipment is a necessary item that can compliment your sporting endeavour rather that just keep time.
There are many great features that a men's sport watches offer, over a wide range of sporting activities. Firstly, and as any serious sports participant will know, a good sports watch must be solid enough to hold up to extreme conditions whether your favored event is climbing back packing, running riding kayaking, skiing, snowboarding or swimming.
Quality considerations aside, it is important that you have a clear picture of your own demands and requirements before you start looking at sports watches for men. You require a watch that is water resistant and probably scratch resistant if you are an avid swimmer for instance. A watch that is sweat resistant, can measure heart rate, record laps and possesses an interval timer feature are probably all necessary feature for a competitive endurance athlete. A watch with temperature, barometer, compass, flashlight and GPS system will like-wise be right up the alley of mountain climbers who embark on expeditions that might last days or even week.
With so much variety in terms of brands and individual watch models, making the decision about what to buy can be a hard one, but if you have a specific idea of your needs, you can narrow down your choices much more easily.
Three popular brands that offer high quality mens sport watches include Timex, Casio and Garmin. Each offer something unique to the active sportsman.
Timex is famous for its Ironman line of sports watches. It features a number of models that have been exceptionally popular over the years. The main features you can expect with a Timex Ironman watch are an 100 hour chronograph stopwatch with lap and split taking, lap counter (usually 99 laps per session), date-stamped session logging with multiple lap storing (in some watches), Indiglo illumination and Night Light (Timex's patented energy efficient lighting system), Interval and Countdown timers, Alarms, Time Keeping, Dual Time Zones, Ocassion Reminder and more.
Timex also offers a wide range of specialist sports watches over and above the standard Ironman features including GPS tracking, heart rate monitoring and many other advanced sports features. Timex are among the most intuitive sports watches to use and can usually be picked up and used without resorting to a manual.
The Casio brand is a famous sports watch maker with a wide variety of mens sports watches that differ, not only in terms of features, but in style and design. The only trouble with Casio watches it that there are so many to choose from. Casio watches always deliver great value for money, but you may need to hunt around for a while to find one that specifically addresses your particular requirements. Casio watches are reputed to be tough sports watches that will last for years, their G-shock range in particular is designed to be capable of taking a beating.
Garmin is the leading sports watch maker of GPS-enabled sports watches in their Forerunner line, (but feature a couple of non-GPS sports watches that use accelerometer foot pods). Currently the best value for money is the Forerunner 305, an older GPS system, that is crammed full of useful features.
Unlike the newer model Forerunners, the 405 and 405CX, the Forerunner 305 features both running and navigation features including support for map navigation, way points and routes. With a much large screen size, the Forerunner 305 is a bulky watch, but offers a maximal display with the ability to display four data fields at once.
It is wise to spend some time researching your choices and determining which are the best men's sport watches that are good matches for your purposes. A great way to learn much more about the best watches in a short amount of time is to hop on the Amazon website as Amazon sells nearly every sports watch on the market.

Using the Garmin Forerunner Running GPS Watch For Interval Training
Looking for a GPS running watch? Few would argue that Garmin's Forerunner line is not among the leading contenders in the GPS running watch market.
After their widely acclaimed Forerunner 205/305 and in more recent times the 405, Garmin have just released two upgrades to their popular sports timepieces, the Forerunner 405CX, an upgrade to the 405 and the Forerunner 310XT which improves on the 205/305 watches.
The 310XT is the more revolutionary of the two upgrades with water resistance and a much longer battery life, but the 405CX, which has improved calorie measuring abilities is selling at a price very close to the 405, so is a worthy purchase if you are buying a new watch.
One of the reasons for the Forerunner's popularity is the watch's support features that can be used in all types of running training. One such feature (or group of features), that caters to the diverse types of running sessions are the Forerunner Workout Types.
The Forerunner watches support four different workout types:
Simple Workouts
Heart Rate Workouts
Interval Workouts; and
Advanced workout types. This article explores only Interval Workouts and how they can be applied to Interval or repetition training. Our website has more information on the other Forerunner workout types.
Most runners who have trained seriously are familiar with interval training. For those who are not, Interval training is simply a series of hard runs with a recovery period. For example an interval training session might be: 10x 400m with 3 minutes rest after each 400m hard run.
Forerunner Interval Workouts can be used to track your repetition workouts and with it's GPS abilities, can signal when to start or stop based on the distance you have run. This allows you to workout by distance, even in areas where you have no foreknowledge of the actual distance in advance.
Interval Workouts, unlike Advanced Workouts can be created on the wrist-watch. To create one, you first set the type of workout, (distance or time), the repetition duration or time, the recovery time or distance and the number of repetitions in the workout. Forerunner Interval Workouts also lets you set an optional warm-up and cool-down period at the beginning and end.
As you approach the end of each interval, an alarm sounds and counts down until the next interval. An interval can be manually ended at any time with the LAP/RESET button. If you include a warm-up, the Forerunner will switch to the warm-up phase when you start the session (press LAP to end the warm-up and start your first interval). If you set a cool-down, the watch enters this phase after your last interval.
Garmin has spent a lot of time and effort designing their Forerunner watches to deliver the features that runner's need. The company's innovations have driven it's Forerunner watches to the forefront of the running watch market. We have only begun to scratch the surface with Interval Workouts. Much more information on Forerunner watches can be found on our website.
